The popular tart shop has expanded to include a dining area, where you can enjoy its signature treats paired with artisanal teas.

Tarte by Cheryl Koh opened as a humble retail shop in 2015, but in the span of three years, it has grown into one of the hottest destinations for fine tarts and other quality pastries by the talented chef, who was also crowned 2016's Asia’s Best Pastry Chef. It also became quickly evident that a cosy dining space would be very much appreciated. This year, fans got just that.

Designed by local firm Fuur, the new space on the second floor of Shaw Centre now boasts seating for up to 30 people. Agnes Tan, senior executive, group marketing and communications, at the Les Amis Group, said they wanted it to look gender-friendly so they used neutral colours such as white, brown and green.

Accents come in the form of circular ceiling lamps and pendant lights, which represent its bread and butter—tarts. Speaking of which, to ensure the best quality of ingredients, chef Koh updates her range of pastries based on seasonal ingredients.

Spotted on a recent visit were new additions to the tart section, such as a crème brulee infused with hojicha (from Kyoto); cherries with light vanilla cream; and Corsican clementine curd mixed with fresh clementine fruits. Classics on the menu include the passionfruit meringue; hazelnut with milk chocolate and caramel; and pistachios with pistachio cream.

But there’s more to Tarte than tarts, so expect to find a range of cakes (we like the not-too-sweet dark chocolate cake), savoury pastries and quiche.

And when you’ve had too much sugar, you can always wash it down with hot teas. Chef works closely with Gryphon Tea to bring guests interesting flavours such as the cherry Japonais, which has delicious floral notes; shiso mint, perfect when you want to cleanse your palate; and earl grey neroli, for a drink with a bit of a kick.
