Available for takeaway and delivery until May 31 are signature tipples inspired by the need to stay positive and united

While the Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2020 proceeded with a virtual awards ceremony on May 14, the Singapore Cocktail Festival (SGCF) that was supposed to follow the event has been moved to October.

To tide you over until the circuit breaker measures are eased up, the organisers have launched an SGCF@Home initiative, which runs until May 31, with the aim of bringing "a slice of Singapore’s craft culture to the homes of cocktail enthusiasts" and to celebrate the achievements of the industry, says Ivy Woo, co-founder of SGCF and Food News.

Inspired by the idea of “unity” and “positivity”, which is much needed during these trying times, bartenders from the island's best bars have created mood-lifting libations, available for takeaway and delivery. From Jigger & Pony, the Best Bar in Asia, for instance, there's its Madame President. It’s an interesting take on the classic Negroni featuring the city’s national flower, the Orchid, to symbolise hope and to remind everyone to stay united in the fight to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

To celebrate its win, Jigger & Pony has also released two limited-edition cocktails that come in bottles specially-designed by local artist Shanlyn C. One of these is dubbed "Worker Bees Build the Hive”, in tribute to the hardworking “ponies” or staff members at Jigger & Pony. The potent tipple, which uses the Havana Club 7-Year rum as its base, is balanced with delicate notes from the use of jasmine liqueur and Okinawan sugar.

The other, cheekily named “The Tree Does Not Grow Straight”, was created to commemorate the bar’s recent milestone win. Its base spirit is the Monkey 47 gin, aged in highly prized Mizunara oak barrels to lend it some spiciness. The drink is finished with aromatic and fruity Peychaud bitters, as well as Merlet Crème de Cassis for added berry notes.

The Old Man Singapore, which debuted on the Asia's 50 Best Bars list at No. 22, has concocted “The Sun Also Rises”. A harmonious balance of coconut oil-washed applejack, curry leaf-infused Bulldog gin, sweet vermouth sous-vide pandan leaf and lime kaffir, drinking this cocktail is a good reminder to stay positive during this difficult period.

Nutmeg & Clove, which re-entered the list at No. 32, has something special for imbibers as well. It's fruity Roses & Lychee concoction is an homage to Singapore’s beloved Bandung, consisting of Hendrick’s gin, roses, lychees and clarified milk. It’s also meant to be a delicious reminder that together, we will overcome the pandemic. Check out all the offerings here.
