The sumptuous blends are made with ultra-rare whiskies from Johnnie Walker's massive reserves collection, and make for the perfect presents this Christmas and Chinese New Year

Just in time for the festive period and holiday gifting, Johnnie Walker has unveiled the perfect gift for whisky connoisseurs and aficionados: the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Glenury Royal. It’s the third rendition of the highly coveted Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare series, which began with Brora in 2017 and Port Ellen in 2018.

Similar to the first two instalments, the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Glenury Royal was concocted using “ghost” whiskies from sought-after distilleries that have since shuttered. This year’s release is centred on the renowned distillery of the same name, which permanently shut its doors in 1985.

The Glenury Royal distillery's name and reputation live on thanks to its exceptional drams (prized for their rich and fruity nuances) and storied past. Established in 1825 by Captain William Barclay, a member of the British parliament and a personal friend of King William IV, it became a roaring success and even earned a royal title—one of only three Scottish distilleries to do so.

Master blender Jim Beveridge and his team carefully handpicked the Glenury Royal expression for its sweet apple and delicate apricot notes, which go well with the distinct character of the “ghost” whiskies from Cambus and Pittyvaich. These come from Johnnie Walker’s massive reserves collection, and only one in 10,000 casks of perfectly aged whiskies has the specific characteristics and quality to make it into the Johnnie Walker Blue Label range—it's that exclusive.

The Glenury Royal is further enhanced with ultra-rare malts from Glen Elgin, Inchgower, Glenlossie, Cameronbridge and Glenkinchie. The result? A smooth blend of chocolate and dried fruits, with undertones of vanilla, heather honey, toffee and butterscotch. With a sumptuous blend like this, bottled at an ABV of 43.8 per cent, it’s the most indulgent gift you can give this Christmas.

Don't forget about the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Limited Edition Gift Pack, too. The exclusive set is a collaboration with renowned Irish designer Richard Malone and comes with two crystal glass tumblers, a card which you can personalise, and of course—the Johnnie Walker Blue Label. The golden liquid is a symphony of beautiful flavours and packed with alluring notes of honeyed sweetness, dried fruits and a perfect smoky finish.

WAIT, THERE'S MORE FOR CHINESE NEW YEAR

For auspicious celebrants who want to welcome the Year of the Rat on a high note, consider giving them the Johnnie Walker Blue Label sporting a special Chinese New Year design. It deserves a place in their whisky collection not only for the rich and characterful blend but also for its gorgeous design that highlights the intelligent creature's wit, adaptability and entrepreneurship.

Finally, there's the John Walker & Sons XR21 Phoenix Edition, which is part of the exceptional John Walker & Sons XR 21 series. The smooth liquid is a concoction of ultra-rare whiskies that have been aged for 21 years or more before they undergo a meticulous three-step blending method.

It's worth noting that the use of the phoenix—a mythological creature in the Chinese culture—represents auspiciousness, too. This makes it an excellent drink to usher in a brand new year.

Enjoy Johnnie Walker responsibly.
