This inaugural food event by Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore, brings together well-known restaurants for one leisurely afternoon of sumptuous bites, sips and more

If you live to eat rather than eat to live, you should check out GastroFest, Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore’s first food event happening on May 5, from 12.30 to 5pm, at the poolside area.

As expected, there’s a ton of delicious eats to look forward to as the hotel has teamed up with popular dining establishments to supersize the offerings. Says executive chef Franco Brodini: “We aim to impress and deliver an afternoon of gaiety… from a lavish and tantalising spread for gourmands, unique cocktails and spirits for the discerning aficionado, to light-hearted fun for the little ones.”

Check out the different booths starting with headliners The Line and Waterfall Ristorante Italiano, and make a beeline for their well-loved bites including the former’s seafood paella, salmon aburi and pan-seared foie gras, as well as the latter’s Italian cold cuts with burrata and homemade fresh pasta served with the chef’s original Italian sauces.

Above Chef Daniel Chavez has crafted exclusive ceviche dishes for GastroFest

Expand your search (and appetite) at Tono Cevicheria, a must-visit, especially since chef-owner Daniel Chavez has created exclusive ceviche items just for the occasion. The Ceviche of Love is a delicious combination of sea urchin, assorted seafood, canchita (Peruvian corn nuts) awash in a zesty tiger’s milk, while the Peruvian Japanese ceviche is a bowl full of marine fresh tuna and scallops ‘cooked’ in a concoction of mirin, yuzu and chilli.

What about meat? There’ll more than enough to go around at Meat Smith, whose chefs will prepare signatures from different outlets—the incredible moreish char siu pork rib, fall-apart tender smoked salt-and-pepper rubbed brisket, and to counter all the meatiness, the smoked spiced cauliflower tomato relish.

With all the food, you’ll surely need something to wash it all down. You can find it at Gin Garden, presented by East Imperial and Drinksfellas, which will serve up refreshing gin & tonics that are easily customisable with your choice of spirit (Royal Botanic Tonic and Burma Tonic) and aromatics.

Finish up by joining one of the exciting activities lined up for the afternoon. While your little tots can participate in handicraft making and movie screenings at the Garden Terrace, you can head over to the Art Jamming Lawn to partake in a collaborative artwork led by Pearlyn K. Min of Pearlyn & Paper.

But if you just want to chill, you can do so while listening to live reggae, R&B and funk music by guest DJ Justo, and Havana Social Club.
