Savour cuisines from around the world without booking a plane ticket

With Singapore’s diverse food scene, we’re lucky enough to have easy access to food from different countries, be it France, Brazil or even Portugal. Here we give you five of our favourite International focused, locally owned restaurants.

Iggy’s

 Modern European

Any gourmand worth their grain will have heard of Iggy’s. Occupying a space on the third level of Hilton Hotel, foodies from all over the world usually flock to this restaurant to try its modern European food. They have a good reason to, with its signature dishes such as the Sakura Ebi Cappellini (which has been on the menu since 2004) and Bonito (burrata cheese with ginger) that helped the restaurant consistently make it to the list of best restaurants in Asia and the world.

With all the accolades it has received, it’s good to remember the brains that started it all – Singapore’s very own Ignatius Chan. Starting his career as a waiter, he quickly moved up the ranks to become an award-winning sommelier and successful restaurateur. With Iggy’s, he aims to showcase his favourite dishes, which are inspired by Asian and European cuisines.

Restaurant Andre

French

Perhaps it was fate that brought Chef Andre Chiang to helm the kitchen of one of best restaurants in Singapore. It led him to open his own restaurant in our shores, giving us a taste of what he does best – superb French food prepared with his own flair.

Named after him, Restaurant Andre quickly rose to the ranks as THE dining place to visit. It also won various accolades and was even included in The New York Times’ list of 10 Restaurants Worth a Plane Ride in 2011. It definitely deserves this award for what you will get is a feast for all the senses with his menu based on Octaphilosophy – eight dishes with themes of pure, salt, artisan, smooth, texture, unique, memoir and terroir.

MACA

European

From a team of Singapore-based young entrepreneurs who come from different backgrounds (banker, flight attendant and architectural undergrad) comes MACA, a modern European restaurant serving food that is comforting yet experimental.

This concept is translated into a contemporary menu, which changes based on the season.  Currently, the restaurant serves its signatures of Chargrilled Baby Octopus with Smoked Miso and the Ceviche of Prawns with Black Tomato and Smoked Tongue with Zucchini and Soy.

BOCA

Portuguese

BOCA will go down in history as the first Portuguese restaurant in Singapore, from Singapore. Fortunately, it lives up to its reputation by bringing its country’s vibrant cuisine and delectable dishes, with specialties such as the Flamed Chorizo, Deep-fried Meat and Almond Croquettes and Coffee Steak.

The restaurant is owned by two Portuguese Chefs, Chef Luca Bordino and Chef Francisco Vaz, who are living and working in Singapore. Missing their food from their home, they decided to open up BOCA to introduce the Singaporean palate to the dishes they grew up loving.

Carne & Caipirinha

Brazilian

Sunset Way is fast becoming a foodie hub, thanks to a number of restaurants that opened in this neighborhood recently. One of these is Carne & Caipirinha, a Brazilian churrascaria that brings Brazil’s fun and vibrant culinary scene to our country.

From local F&B company, Argentum Group, the restaurant prides itself as the only charcoal-fired Brazilian churrascaria in Singapore. Offerings such as the beef rump cap, beef hump, chicken, pork and fish are slow-roasted over charcoal fire to retain their rich flavours and add a hint of smokiness. These are served on rotation by Passadors (meat servers), who are dressed in traditional outfits to complete the overall dining experience.
