5 Reasons You Should Revisit Jim Thompson
Admist the hustle of bustle of the city, it's always nice to uncover a cosy new nook or rediscover a classic spot that features a fresh look. Located within the Dempsey Hill enclave, Jim Thompson: A Thai Restaurant and Wine Bar has recently unveiled its refreshed interiors and a revamped menu comprising classic dishes and bold, creative cocktails. Here's a peek at what you can expect, within its exquisite interior.
The fine-dining establishment’s updated menu now features some 80 authentic Thai dishes, including its popular boat noodle soup and tom yum goong, as well as a selection of signature cocktails. If you're eyeing a generous serving of its best-selling dishes, opt for the restaurant's weekend lunch buffets, which feature an array of Northern Thai-style noodles and salads, flavourful pots of curries and soups from Southern Thailand, as well as classic desserts.
Housed within a historic building at Dempsey Hill, Jim Thompson features architectural and decor elements that honour Thailand’s rich heritage and culture. The double volume space—its ceiling rises up to 15 metres—is furnished with an exquisite collection of Thai artifacts and upholstery from the brand. At adjoining wine bar, Northern Thai artifacts and shelving panels clad in Thai silk hark to the restaurant's provenance.
Admire the beauty of hand-woven upholstery up-close at this establishment. True to the fabric and lifestyle company’s storied history of craftsmanship, its use of hand woven Thai silks and fabrics throughout the restaurant pays homage to the legacy left behind by its eponymous founder, who made headways in introducing these artisan-made textiles to the world.
For cosy gatherings, look to the King and Queen private dining rooms, which can seat up to 24 guests each. The table will be immaculately dressed for the occasion with candles, floral sculptures and, of course, hand-woven silk fabrics.
Don't leave without trying the restaurant bar's signature cocktails. Highlights include the Green Fairy — an Absinthe-based drink infused with a refreshing mix of mint leaves and fresh lime juice — as well as the Tom Klong Margarita, which pairs Grand Marnier liqueur with a spicy mix of red chili, homemade Tom Klong syrup and other ingredients.
