Choosing the perfect location to propose to the love of your life can be nerve-wracking. After all, you’re asking to spend the rest of your lives together. Everything—from the setting to the meal and the music—has to fall in to place. So here’s an idea: why not consider popping the question at a restaurant? And you’re in luck because we've got a few in mind to get you started.

1. Lavo Italian Restaurant & Rooftop Bar

Tatler Asia

We know what you’re thinking. The restaurant’s clubby vibe may not be ideal for a proposal—but hear us out. The huge space on Marina Bay Sands SkyPark is divided into a bar, dining room and an expansive open-air terrace; the latter has tables at the end which are quieter, more private, and with a beautiful backdrop of Marina Bay.

Its look, which is loyal to its New York outpost, seems to transport you to the other side of the world, too, with its leather booths and New York subway tiles. The same goes for the American-Italian menu, which offers the menu’s greatest hits such as the one-pound meatball packed with ground wagyu, veal and Italian sausage, as well as the 20 layer chocolate peanut butter cake. In fact, chef Brian Stroud told us about a proposal at the restaurant where the guy asked the girl after the dessert. What a sweet surprise!

2. The Lighthouse

Tatler Asia

Google “the most romantic restaurants in Singapore”, and chances are you’ll find this Italian restaurant on the list. It’s perched atop The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, which gives you the most amazing vista of the Marina Bay skyline—especially at dusk.

Choose a seat in a corner beside the window for better view (and privacy), and be pampered with great service, as well as chef Carlo Marengoni sumptuous Italian fare which takes you to the regions such as Campania, Sardinia and Italy.

And when the right moment comes (perhaps after the signature Amaretto tiramisu?) drop down on one knee and ask away.

3. Jaan

Tatler Asia

This French restaurant has seen its fair share of proposals, and we’re not surprised. It just oozes romance—from its million-dollar cityscape view, to its elegant interiors and world class fare. It's perfect for food lovers, or anyone who appreciates the importance of a fine meal.

Pop a bottle of champagne first (we’ll go for the Krug Grand Cuvee), to set the mood, before you dig into chef de cuisine Kirk Westaway’s inspired fare. Treat her with unfussy yet flavourful creations such as the heirloom tomato, which features the dehydrating and rehydrating the fruit, as well as stuffing it with complementary ingredients. There are also organic eggs that are cooked at 55 degrees then sprinkled with chorizo sauce. When her appetite has been satiated like this, we don’t see any reason why she won't accept your proposal.

4. Pollen

Tatler Asia

The restaurant may not have the bird’s eye view of the city, but its location at Flower Dome, surrounded by lush greenery, provides a different and beautiful ambience—perfect for the big moment.

But first, it would be right to feed her with delectable creations by executive chef Steve Allen. Think Pollen’s Garden, an appetiser made with 16 seasonal herbs and vegetables (some are picked from their own herb garden); beef cheek tea, inspired-by chef Allen’s beloved bak kut teh (local pork bone soup), among others.

When the last course is finished, take her to the terrace on the second level (we recommend booking the whole place) and make your grand gesture.
