Before the shows kick off tonight, Diane von Fürstenberg flew into town to share exactly where she thinks future of Singapore’s design scene is headed.

From the designer that made wrap dresses an enduring fashion staple, while also playing mentor to names the likes of Alexander Wang, Phillip Lim and Rodarte, we were all ears when Diane von Fürstenberg was offering up tips on getting into the dizzyingly fast-paced world of fashion.
“It’s important on your own territory that you realize; okay, let’s make this the beginning of something major. Singapore is such an example of a miracle! The three designers we are featuring today are very good, I did not expect this level of craftsmanship and professionalism – let us make Singapore Fashion Week big.”
Diane’s speaking of local designers Priscilla Shunmugam of Ong Shunmugam, Sabrina Goh of ELOHIM and Chelsea Scott-Blackhall of Dzojchen – three local designers picked for the inaugural Fashion Futures programme. A partnership between Singapore Fashion Week and the Council of Fashion Designers America (CFDA), the aim is to nurture Singapore’s fashion talent with the essential skills to take the leap from the local to global stage.
Other than the obvious perk of dwelling in the fashion incubator that is CFDA’s family of over 500 international designers and local industry leaders, Priscilla, Sabrina and Chelsea received funding of S$50,000 each to kick-start their fashion dreams, as well as one-on-one feedback sessions with Diane, Victoria Beckham and Thakoon Panichgul of Thakoon, as well as the invaluable opportunity of being personally introduced to the New York fashion industry by the CFDA.

Chelsea Scott-Blackhall and Sabrina Goh will present their respective collections at SFW under the Fashion Futures Showcase on Thursday, 14 May at 6.30pm. Priscilla Shunmugam will also present her Cruise 2016 collection under the same showcase on Friday, 15 May at 6.30pm.
