Italian luxury labels Valentino and Armani Privé presenting their haute couture shows worked easy-to-recreate swept-up styles on the runway this week. Top make-up and hair duo Pat McGrath and Guido Palau were behind the models' rustic Russian doll beauty at Valentino. Hair stylist Guido Palau twisted and plaited models' tresses into a messy crown braid style, which he simply termed "romantic." Heavy, barely styled fringes and tiny little flowers added to the overall softness of this feature-flattering look.

"It's like they were just lying in the grass," Palau told Women's Wear Daily, adding "there's an innocence to their kind of romance." To re-create this look, stock up on hair pins, styling powder and some floral hair accessories. Subtle rosebud lips and and immaculate skin with pink blush emulating a natural flush completed this natural youthful look, which Pat McGrath dubbed "poetic" and "pure." Mascara swept through lower lashes gave models an innocent, doe-eyed look.

At Giorgio Armani Privé groomed, no-nonsense hair rocked the runway. The wet-look, scraped-back updo culminated in strict, sleek sectioned ponytails as straight as sticks of bamboo, with a dramatic middle parting. The minimal hair naturally let the super-luxe clothing take center stage. Make up was predictably flawless. A harsh updo like this wouldn't settle for anything less. Armani Privé reminded us just how striking pairing pulled-back hair and statement earrings can be. Like many other haute couture designers, Giorgio Armani Privé favored dramatic eyes. Stylist Linda Cantello's subtle yet strong powder-blue eye make-up defined with gold arched liner provided the perfect foil for the Armani Privé collection, which melded delicacy and strength.
