Proclaiming himself ‘very, very good at indulging’, Joshua Ee has a love for the high life, and an unexpectedly cerebral passion for fashion.

The way he tells it, joshua ee has a major case of peter pan syndrome. He slips a monkey ring with 14 carats of black diamonds onto his index finger. “I designed it myself. My friends say I’m playful like a monkey—a big kid and I never want to grow up. I just really love to have fun—drink, shop, party!”

And while he also has fun dressing up, he’s serious about doing it by his own rules. “I don’t believe in buying only the most expensive things. That doesn’t say you’re fashionable; it just says you’re just rich. Wear an entire runway look? You’re not a fashionista, you’re just a slave to fashion.”

The 27-year-old fashion buyer for Tangs, whose family runs several shipping groups, has loved dressing up since he was 12. “I think of it as getting into character: I can go sporty, full-on baller, or very traditional with a formal tux.” His sharp but playful wardrobe evinces a philosophical leaning towards avant-garde designers and fashion rebels. “I like designers who can break free from the style they’re known for and who always find new ways of doing something.”
