The fashion house is onto their fourth chapter of its Secret Garden Saga, starring pop sensation and fashion starlet, Rihanna.

In the mysterious deep darkness of the night, the majestic Versailles serves as the playing ground for Christian Dior’s ‘modern muse’ Rihanna, as she works the Esprit Dior collection shown in Tokyo last December, the video playing to the singer’s track ‘Only If For A Night’.

Thanks to the immensely successful previous three chapters of Christian Dior’s Secret Garden series, this fourth campaign continues its story in the château and gardens of Versailles. An almost indisputable choice of location, since Dior’s first collections had silhouettes that took names from the French royal château, where they too chose to hold their 60th anniversary runway presentation in the Orangerie, and the iconic J’adore campaign starring Charlize Theron shot in the Hall of Mirrors.

Captured under the lens of the famed Steven Klein, the fashion house’s choice of Rihanna, the brand’s first black woman to front a campaign, serves as both an innovative and historic move.

This bold move also translates into the collection, as Raf Simons, Artistic Director of the Maison Dior, pushed beyond any comfort zones by creating looks such as adding sequins to create a shimmering silver polo neck that fit like second skin. It’s all thanks to Tokyo city, where Simons took his inspiration from, calling the Japanese metropolis a place “where fashion happens in the street, and so many people take the liberty to express themselves".

The result?  Femme-fleur aplenty where slim trousers are matched with a flared Corolle top, short and wide-collared pea coats in felt, and Scottish wools and Shetland tanks in European knits. For Christian Dior, this season, the deeper the contrast, the more beautiful.
