The latest release from Frédéric Malle’s Editions de Parfums sees famed perfumer Carlos Benaïm adding to the library of scents

While most children grew up around toys and candy, perfumer Carlos Benaïm’s childhood in Tangier was coloured by the world of natural raw materials. His father, a botanist and scientist, brought him closer to nature, tuning his sensitivity to scents while seeding his pre-inclination towards exceptionally elegant accords. "Polo" by Ralph Lauren ranks as one of his first masterpieces, but Eau de Magnolia, his latest creation for Frédéric Malle’s Editions de Parfums collection is likely to be the most memorable.

Eau de Magnolia is not your typical floral scent. It defies the classic white or rosy flower structures, leaning instead towards that of a fresh chypre fragrance, one with an extraordinarily transparent and natural smelling note underscored by a sombre base that gives it depth. Bergamot from Calabria mingles with vetiver, patchouli, cedar, amber and tree moss to form an elegant cocktail of scents that’s quite perfect for summer.
