What’s your secret obsession?
I am not sure if I can call it an obsession but dancing is definitely something I enjoy freely without having to plan for it. I can dance inside a fitting room (my girlfriends can attest to this) or in the shower! I just need the right music and tempo to get myself grooving.

Why do you like it?
It’s hard to put into words the joy that comes from dancing but when I dance, I feel an explosion of emotions. Sometimes I feel as if I am in a world of my own, which I actually find very peaceful - even if the music is thumping!

How did this passion begin?
When I was younger, I was always eager to learn whatever my elder sister Cheryl taught me - I look up to her. It all started with this 'shoulder-popping' move when I was five years old and the rest is history. I would lead other students in dancing during my primary and secondary school days at Singapore Chinese Girls’ School. Strangely though, I never joined the dance curriculum programme, which the school was well noted for. I never took any professional dance classes either - with the exception of waltz lessons for the Debutante Ball which was an awesome experience. Nonetheless, I still enjoy dancing to this day.

To what depths have you gone to pursue your passion?
The best thing about dancing is that it does not cost a lot in terms of money and time. You can dance wherever and whenever you want, unless of course you decide to take up professional courses or dance classes. I may attempt Salsa classes with my hubby at some point.

How does dancing influence your work?
Work needs to be balanced with play, and dancing is an opportunity for me to really let my hair down. After that period of fun and expression, I feel recharged for work.

A day without it is like … Monotony... and forgoing an excuse that it could have been my workout for the week!
