Imagine the thrill of waking up each day with a new idea in mind – such is the case for Vihari Sheth, which we can only guess is the very definition of waking up on the right side of bed.

As a jewellery manufacturer and designer of Vihari Jewels, a constant flow of ideas of creation and techniques are what fuels Sheth’s work, and much time is spent going through the process of trial and error.

Coming from a family of diamond traders who have been in the business since 1945, Sheth opened her eponymous jewellery brand in 2006, offering finely crafted classic diamond jewellery.

We speak to the jewellery designer about what keeps her inspired, and what her power tool of choice is in her trade.

Asia Tatler: How do you stay inspired?
Vihari Sheth:
I stay inspired by travelling – I’ve just travelled to Italy, Belgium, and France! Traveling to the European side of the world always inspires me as there is so much culture and history preserved in every part of the city, with Rome and Florence being my favourite. Every time I go back I discover something different. My newest ideas are to do with ancient Rome-inspired gold cuffs, which women with power used to wear back then.

AT: What do you love most about working with jewellery?
VS:
I love that you can always discover something new everyday when working with jewellery. The technical aspect of creating new jewels is infinite!

AT: What is your power tool of choice at work?
VS:
When you say power tool, I consider it to be the CAD [computer-aided design] machine to make wax models in various different styles. All our trial and errors are done on this magical tool!

AT: Who or what do you consider to be icons of power?
VS:
I consider strong women such as Cleopatra, Coco Chanel, and Elizabeth Taylor to be icons of power.

AT: If you could choose to have a superpower, what would it be?
VS:
I would want the superpower of being able to be anywhere in the blink of an eye, as I travel every month and to all different parts of the world.
