Georgia Lee In China

More than just a travel wonderland of awe-inspiring nature reserves and charming locales, China is a land of business opportunities for medical entrepreneur Georgia Lee. As she traverses through the picturesque Jiuzhaigou in the Sichuan province, the medical director of TLC Lifestyle Practice and founder of the DrGL skincare line opens up about her affinity with the country.

On exploring China:

“I come to China mostly for work—lecturing at hospitals and meeting up with clients. I’d usually hop on the red-eye, get my work done, and fly out as soon as everything is over. But lately, I’ve taken to travelling around the country for leisure as well.”

On the Great Wall of China:

“My favourite city in China is Beijing, because of its rich history. The first time I climbed the Great Wall was in winter. I was in awe at the amount of work that had gone into building this incredible feat of architecture. I also imagined how it was in the 13th century when the legendary Mongol warrior Genghis Khan led his men through the bulwarks and into battle at possibly the very spot where I stood.”

 On her expansion plans:

“China has always been a market of interest for DrGL, but before we enter it, we need to have the logistics to support the venture, because first impressions count. So when Amazon China approached us to bring in our skincare products several years ago, we turned down the opportunity because we weren’t ready then. We’re currently focusing on entering through the retail channel and working with International Enterprise Singapore on product registration. We’ve also spoken to interested established platforms about possible collaborative plans.”

On finally visiting Jiuzhaigou:

“I’ve been wanting to visit Jiuzhaigou after several Chinese clients told me that while one simply cannot finish exploring the famous sights of China, the nature reserve is a must visit because of the stunning natural landscape of its mountains, waterfalls and colourful lakes.”

On being proudly Singaporean:

“When I’m travelling, food and accommodation are two of the most important aspects of the trip for me. After enjoying the sights and nature of the destination, I must have a wonderful meal and room to go back to. So I’m both proud and comforted by the presence of a Singapore brand such as Banyan Tree in Jiuzhaigou.”
