When Peggy Jeffs organises a party, it’s usually to celebrate a good cause and helping to raise funds for various charities – the recipient of Singapore Tatler’s 2011 Leadership Award for Community Service tells us more about her pet causes and her one most memorable birthday party

My most memorable celebration was
my cabaret-themed birthday party four years ago. It was held at the formal dining at Tanglin Club's Churchill Room with about 100 of my friends. The dress I wore was by one of my favourite designers, Ruti Danan. I also engaged three professional models dressed up to the theme, to enhance the atmosphere. Many friends performed dances or sang with the band.

My ideal party is all about the setting, theme and entertainment – besides food. The guests are also very important – those who make an effort to dress up to the theme and to spend time to practising for their performances also make for a great party.

I am always busy with fund-raising events, so unless there is a special occasion, I do not usually hold private parties. I started my charity work in 1988, and I enjoy organising events for each of the causes I support, be it the Singapore Red Cross, Chinese Women’s Association (CWA) or the Lions Club.

The Red Cross Charity Bazaar in October 2012

In October, I organised 3 charity cevents, namely the Nankai anniversary; JewelFest; and Red Cross International Bazaar. The first two being CWA charity events, while I chaired the Red Cross International Bazaar, which saw around 3000 to 4000 people.

What I enjoy most about the Tatler Ball are the themes, music, entertainment, drinks and food, and one of my favourite themes was the Masque Ball. I usually have my outfits custom-made, and every outfit that I’ve created has been a favourite. I don’t wear black; I prefer colours, particularly red.
