On April 20, Dior opened a new store in Ginza Six, a commercial complex for luxury shopping in the heart of Tokyo. The French label celebrated the event by holding a fashion show on the spectacular mall's rooftop, showcasing its spring/summer 2017 haute-couture collection presented in Paris in January, this time featuring new silhouettes specially designed for the latest live show.
Echoing the Paris preview, the garden maze was a central theme of Dior's Tokyo live show, with a setting reminiscent of a secret garden. Models walked among this lush and leafy labyrinth wearing evening gowns in a soft selection of changing shades, from mauve to grey to blue to pink. There were also plenty of flower embellishments, a Christian Dior signature.
Bar suits reinterpreted with a modern and ultra-feminine twist featured alongside pleated culottes, hooded coats, and long dresses decorated with stars and tarot symbols, treating the show's specially selected guests to a heady midsummer maze.
Collection designer Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior's creative director of womenswear collections, created some extra looks for the Tokyo event, channelling Japanese influences through the skills and high-end expertise of the French fashion house.

For her new creations, the designer took inspiration from cherry blossoms and Christian Dior's 1953 "Jardin Japonais" dress, nodding to the "Hanami" National Cherry Blossom Festival that celebrates the arrival of spring. The iconic blooms came embroidered on flowing gowns, jackets, a coat and a long hooded cape.
